Event Details
A free to visit exhibition at the new Fylde Gallery at Lytham Hall (open Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays) with paintings by Richard Ansdell from the Lytham St Annes Art Collection, held in Trust by Fylde Council. This exhibition will be displayed in the newly created first floor exhibition space at Lytham Hall. Donations welcome which will be reinvested into the upkeep of the Collection.
Our latest exhibition is Savage Beauty, a carefully selected display of Richard Ansdell (1815 – 1885) works. The exhibition will include never before exhibited paintings. Ansdell was born in Liverpool and lived predominantly in London, but he had a special affinity with Lytham St Annes and kept a summer home in part of the borough now named after him.
Frequently compared to Landseer, Ansdell’s paintings often depict hunting scenes and unforgiving landscapes, savage in their beauty
The Lytham St Annes Art Collection is a significant public art collection. Previously sited at Fylde Council’s Town Hall, it is one of the largest and most diverse Town Hall collections in the country. Comprised entirely of works amassed through public donation, the collection contains works by notable artists such as Henry Fuseli and Charles Burton Barber, as well as works by lauded local and regional artists.
