THE PRODUCERS OF ‘HAIRSPRAY’ AND ‘PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT’ HAVE JOINED FORCES WITH DIRECTORS SAM HOLMES AND NICK WINSTON, AND DESIGNER PHILLIP WITCOMB, TO RE-IMAGINE THIS CLASSIC STORY FOR A NEW AUDIENCE.
FEATURING A HOST OF LOVEABLE FAIRYTALE CHARACTERS AND MEMORABLE SONGS, INCLUDING ‘I’M A BELIEVER’, ‘SHREK THE MUSICAL’ IS A FUN FILLED NIGHT AT THE THEATRE THAT EVERYONE WILL ENJOY.
Producers Mark Goucher, Gavin Kalin and Matthew Gale are delighted to announce a brand-new production of the award-winning Broadway and West End hit show Shrek the Musical will tour the UK and Ireland from July 2023. The bright and beautiful fairy-tale world of Shrek will be reimagined by a new creative team for this major tour. All the classic characters from the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks animated film will be back to paint the town green, accompanied by the iconic songs and story from David Lindsay-Abaire and Jeanine Tesori’s original musical.
Having played Lord Farquaad in the previous UK tour, Sam Holmes (Club Tropicana the Musical) returns to the swamp to co-direct. He is joined by acclaimed director and choreographer Nick Winston, whose recent credits include Bonnie and Clyde (Arts Theatre) and Beauty and the Beast (as associate director and choreographer for the UK tour) and upcoming projects include a new world tour of We Will Rock You and a remounted UK tour of Rock of Ages.
Set and costume design will be by Phillip Witcomb whose previous productions include Bonnie & Clyde In Concert (Theatre Royal Drury Lane), Jack & The Beanstalk (Everyman Theatre Cheltenham), Atlantis (Tivoli Concert Hall, Copenhagen), Mame (Hope Mill Theatre and UK Tour), The Beauty Queen of Leenane and Stones In His Pockets (The Minack Theatre).
Further creative team to be announced in due course.
Shrek the Musical opens at the Opera House Blackpool on Tuesday 12 December playing through until Saturday 30 December 2023 for a strictly limited Christmas season. Early bird tickets are on-sale now, with £5.00 all tickets until 31 December 2022, plus a range of fantastic family offers also available.
Mark Goucher said ‘I am delighted to be bringing this re-imagined production of the beloved ‘Shrek the Musical’ to audiences across the UK and Ireland. The story of Shrek is known and loved across the world and this show is an incredibly joyous, fun and uplifting evening at the theatre that will be enjoyed by all ages’
The Oscar®-winning DreamWorks animated film Shrek celebrated its 20th anniversary last year. Shrek the Musical was first performed on Broadway in 2008, receiving 8 Tony nominations, and the award for Best Costume Design. The original West End production was nominated for 4 Olivier awards, including Best New Musical, at the 2012 Olivier awards. Nigel Harman received the award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Lord Farquaad.
Join our unlikely hero Shrek and his noble steed Donkey as they embark on a big, bright, musical adventure. Based on the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks animated film, the Broadway and West End hit Shrek the Musical is a fun-filled, hilarious musical comedy with a cast of vibrant characters and a ‘shrektacular’ score.
Featuring the beloved Princess Fiona, the evil Lord Farquaad, a host of magical fairy-tale characters and fabulous songs including the smash hit ‘I’m a Believer’, Shrek the Musical is a ‘musical extravaganza for big kids and little kids alike’ (Bristol Post).
Come join the adventure as Shrek and Donkey endeavour to complete their quest, finding unexpected friendships and surprising romance along the way. A perfect night out for the young, and the young at heart, the award-winning Shrek the Musical is guaranteed fun for all ages and will have you dancing in the aisles and laughing all the way home.

We are once again teaming up with Ribble Bird Tours to bring you a wildlife walk from Lytham Windmill to Lytham Quays. Throughout Autumn and Winter the Ribble Estuary is teeming with wading birds that spend the Summer in the far North and the Winter here. Once the breeding season is over they make their way over to our “warmer” climes and the mudflats of the Ribble Estuary are a huge food resource. Stuart, your guide is an expert in his field and operates his own bird tour company, travelling far and wide. He is based locally in Lytham and has a wide and vast amount of knowledge. You will never fail to learn something new on a walk out with Stuart. Meet at the Lytham Windmill at 9.30am. The guided walk will last around three hours, with the opportunity to look a little closer with spotting scopes along the way.

Under the skilful direction of Paul Lomax, Award Winning Fylde Coast Players bring a brand new adaptation of The Good Life to Lytham.
When Tom and Barbara Good decide to exchange the pressures of the rat race for an alternative, more sustainable way of living, they set about turning their suburban home in Surbiton into a model of self-sufficiency. They grow their own fruit and veg, keep livestock in the garden, make their own clothes, and even generate their own electricity from manure.
It’s the good life for them – but not for Margo and Jerry Leadbetter, who live next door, and are desperately trying to maintain the Surbiton status quo.
Jeremy Sams’ stage play, based on the hugely popular sitcom by John Esmonde and Bob Larbey, reunites the well-loved characters (not forgetting Geraldine the goat) as they get themselves into and out of scrapes – some old, some new, all hilarious!
Director Paul Lomax explains, “Tapping into issues that resonate now more than ever, The Good Life is a witty reimagining of a television classic, with a wellyful of laughs that’s sure to delight Lytham audiences.

Friday night (July 05) will see the already announced Manchester-based guitar band Courteeners perform their only North of England headline show of the summer with support from English pop-rock outfit The Kooks and indie pop riser Nieve Ella.
One of the most successful UK bands of recent years, Courteeners are made up of Liam Fray, Michael Campbell and Daniel Moores.
All their albums have gone Top 10 and earlier this year, their 2008 debut album St. Jude reached Number 1 for the very first time with its 15th anniversary edition making it the album with the longest time between release and charting at Number 1 in UK chart history. The band also played their third sold-out 50,000 capacity headline show at Heaton Park in June to celebrate the anniversary of the album.
The Kooks have enjoyed an impressive rise to fame since the release of their debut album, Inside In/Inside Out which reached Number One in the U.K. Album Charts. Since then, they’ve gone on to release five further albums, their most recent last year with 10 Tracks to Echo in the Dark. Continually attracting a new breed of fans, the band have gained countless streams across multiple platforms and embarked on a number of world tours.
Indie pop riser Nieve Ella will open the show. Nieve’s popularity has soared since she first picked up a guitar during lockdown – three years later she has achieved hundreds of thousands of streams and recently supported Inhaler on their UK tour.
Saturday July 06 will see the return of one of Lytham Festival’s most popular artists – Madness.
Pop’s Nutty Boys headlined Lytham back in 2017. In a career spanning five decades they have chalked up 15 UK Top 10 singles – including the timeless Our House, It Must Be Love, One Step Beyond, My Girl, Wings Of A Dove and Baggy Trousers – together with ten Top 10 albums. This month they released Theatre of the Absurd Presents C’est la Vie, their critically acclaimed lucky thirteenth full-length album.
They will be supported by another returning artist – pop icon Rick Astley. It’s 11 years since he performed on Lytham Green and almost 40 years since he first shot to fame, but Rick Astley is now arguably a more prominent force in popular culture than he ever was. Continuing to win the adoration of fans old and new, recent years have seen him perform with Foo Fighters, Take That and Blossoms. Rick recently released his ninth studio album Are We There Yet? and since returning to the Number One spot in 2016 with album 50, he has enjoyed the strongest run of album chart positions of his entire career.
Joining Madness and Rick Astley will be Liverpudlian hitmakers Lightning Seeds. It is 35 years since they first hit the charts and the Lytham audience can expect to singalong to a string of hits including Life of Riley, Lucky You and football anthem Three Lions.
And the closing night of Lytham Festival on Sunday July 07 will see a 2024 UK festival exclusive from indie legends James accompanied by the Orca22 Orchestra and the Manchester Inspirational Voices Choir.
Still every bit as popular, adventurous, melodically gifted and politically eviscerating as ever, this year James marked 40 years with Be Opened By The Wonderful, 20 tracks of some of their most loved and rare tracks, re-imagined with the 22-piece orchestra and eight-piece choir who will grace the stage with them at Lytham Festival with composer and conductor Joe Duddell.
James are one of Britain’s most enduring success stories, having released 16 studio albums, selling more than 25 million copies with their recent run of Top 5 albums proving to be a golden era for the band.
Supporting them in Lytham will be founding member and songwriting genius of The Smiths, superstar collaborator and sensational solo artist in his own right, Johnny Marr.
Quite rightly regarded as a bona fide British music icon, Johnny Marr’s live shows include songs from across his whole career, from classic Smiths and Electronic hits to his lauded and diverse solo work such as fan favourites Easy Money, Night and Day, Spirit, Spiral Cities and Power and Soul.

Courteeners will head to Lytham Festival in 2024 for their one and only North of England show of the summer.
The Manchester-based guitar band are the first headliner to be announced as the North West’s biggest live music festival prepares to return for five unforgettable nights from Wednesday 03 to Sunday 07 July.
One of the most successful UK bands of the last 15 years, Courteeners – made up of Liam Fray, Michael Campbell and Daniel Moores – will bring their unmissable show to Lytham Green on Friday July 05.
They will be joined with support from English pop-rock outfit The Kooks and indie pop riser Nieve Ella.
Frontman Liam Fray said: “We are very much looking forward to making our debut and joining the illustrious list of acts that have performed at the Lytham festival. We made the short pilgrimage from Manchester last year to watch The Strokes and were blown away by the buzz of the locals and the beauty of the scenery.
“What a Friday it’s going to be on July 5th. See you down the front, x”
Formed in 2006 and lauded by Q Magazine as one of “the world’s biggest underground acts”, all of Courteeners albums have gone Top 10. Earlier this year, their 2008 debut album St. Jude reached Number 1 for the very first time with its 15th anniversary edition and became the album with the longest time between release and charting at Number 1 in UK chart history. The band also played their third sell out 50,000 capacity headline show at Heaton Park in June to celebrate the anniversary of the album.
Lytham Festival co-founder Peter Taylor added: “Courteeners are without a doubt one of the country’s biggest and best-loved bands.
“This is an exclusive performance for the North of England so if you want to see them next summer you need to head to Lytham Festival.”
